History
Færd was launched in 2001 by Peter Uhrbrand and Eskil Romme.
Peter and Eskil got the idea getting the crew together after touring up north on the Faroe Islands. - They discovered a kind of basic Scandinavian musical material, very unique compared with what was normally heard outside these islands, in the rest of Scandinavia –
Included in the first line up was English guitarist Ian Carr and Irish/English accordion player Karen Tweed and Danish singer Nanna Luders, beside of course Peter Uhrbrand and Eskil Romme.

This crew recorded and released Faerd’s first cd “Faerd”in 2002. The material on “Faerd” is basicly songs and dance ballads known and used on the Faroes, and dance tunes from Jens Christian Swabo’s music book(1746 – 1824). This album also includes melodies from other 18th century music books, Shetland tunes and the tune ”Davy” written by Eskil Romme in memory of Scots singer Davy Steel.
“Faerd” was in 2003 nominated in 5 categories for “Danish Music Award Folk”.
The idea of an inter European crew went on at the next step; Still Karen Tweed and now with Finish bass player Tapani Varis and Swedish singer and fiddler Carina Normansson – This 5 piece band toured Australia and New Zealand in 2004, and here after a new crew signed on –
From 2005 and forward Færd became a trio ; Still Peter and Eskil, but now with Swedish bouzouki, guitar player and vocalist Jens Ulvsand. The musical idea, based on Scandinavian material as such, is still kept, and by Jens Ulvsand a wider influence concerning style is introduced. Jens has a background in jazz and rock music before he started playing folk music about 15 years ago, and as Peter and Eskil have been in the same musical fields, Færd now mixes folk music with especially jazz and rock music, but on an acoustic basic.
Færd’s latest cd “Logbok”, released in September 06, based on the trio of Peter, Eskil and Jens, and as a guest singer Norwegian/Danish Julie Hjetland, included on two tracks.
“Logbok”(logbook) reports musical calls in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, The Faroe Islands, Shetland, England, Holland and New Zealand. The material is a mix of traditional and new composed tunes and songs by a wide range of musicians and composers from all over the world.
